Gütermann Extra Strong M 782 – sewing thread for heavily stressed seams
Gütermann Extra Strong M 782 is a 100% polyester sewing thread for heavily stressed seams and repairs. According to Gütermann, it is very strong and tear-resistant and is used for joining seams and topstitching, bold decorative stitches, and heavy fabrics and weaves. Choose your colour from the options; according to the manufacturer, there are 45 colours.
At No. 40, the thread is thicker than a fine standard thread. This is useful when a seam is meant to show, for example when topstitching, or when a fabric is thicker and firmer. The spool holds 100 m, so you can easily estimate the amount you need for shorter seams and repairs. According to the manufacturer, the thread contains Micro Core Technology®.
Needle and settings
Gütermann recommends a universal needle NM 90–110. The heavier needle has a larger eye, which lets the thick thread run through without fraying. For topstitching and decorative stitches, set a longer stitch length than for normal sewing thread so that the thread shows well on the fabric. Test the thread tension and stitch appearance first on an offcut of the fabric you want to sew.
