98 mm Lino Roller – Applying Ink Evenly for Lino Printing

The 98 mm lino roller is a rubber brayer with a handle for applying printing ink to lino blocks. It is made of solid rubber and is suitable for lino printing, relief printing techniques and monoprints.

A rubber brayer lays down a thicker, more even layer of ink than a foam roller. This helps you print areas and fine lines cleanly, without the ink looking patchy.

Inking the block

Put only a little ink on a smooth plate and roll it out into a thin, even film. Then roll over the lino block in several passes until the raised areas are completely covered. Too much ink runs into the recessed areas and smudges fine details in the print. Clean the roller straight after printing, using the method that suits the ink you have used.

Which width is right?

With 98 mm you can ink medium to larger blocks in just a few passes. For very small blocks and tight details, the narrower 49 mm lino roller may be easier to handle.
