Lino Printing Roller Ø 30 mm – 90 mm Wide for Linocut and Relief Printing
The lino printing roller, Ø 30 mm and 90 mm wide, applies printing ink evenly to linocuts and other relief printing blocks. The rubber covering is 4 mm thick and runs on a plastic core. The nickel-plated steel wire frame has rests so that the roller does not sit on the rubber covering when put down.
At 90 mm wide, it covers small to medium-sized printing blocks in a few passes. Very large plates need correspondingly more passes. The roller can be taken apart, so you can get the individual parts properly clean too.
Inking the lino block
Put a little ink on a smooth surface and roll it out into a thin, even film until the roller has picked up ink evenly all the way round. Then roll over the lino block in several directions with light pressure. The most common mistake is too much ink: it settles in the recessed areas and leaves squashed edges in the print. It is better to ink twice thinly than once thickly.
Cleaning and resting
Clean the roller straight after printing, before the ink dries, using the cleaner that the ink manufacturer specifies for its ink. As the roller can be taken apart, you can also reach the areas between the covering and the frame. To dry it or take a break, rest it on the rests so that the rubber covering does not develop flat spots.
