Gütermann Maraflex – elastic sewing thread for stretchy seams
Gütermann Maraflex is an elastic sewing thread for jersey, stretch fabrics and stretch woven fabrics. You can use it to sew stretchy construction and topstitched seams with a straight-stitch look, for example on round necklines, hems or when attaching cuffs. According to Gütermann, the thread stretches by up to 80 %, so the seam gives with movement instead of snapping.
The thread is made of 100 % polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and is produced in Germany using Micro Core Technology®. This is a covering process based on microfilament polyester. With 150 m on the reel and thickness No. 120, you can use it as both needle thread and bobbin thread. Choose your colour from the options.
What Maraflex is used for
Maraflex is intended for light to medium-weight stretch fabrics and wovens, for example jersey or woven fabric with elastane content. Typical uses are round necklines, close-fitting hems, cuffs on sleeves and legs, and casual clothing such as hoodies or jogging bottoms. A normal, non-elastic thread is more likely to snap in such seams when you stretch the fabric, for example when putting a garment on.
Sewing tips
Use a jersey, stretch or super stretch needle in NM 70–80, as recommended by Gütermann. A test seam on a fabric scrap shows you, before you start sewing, whether the stitch appearance and stretch suit your fabric.
