Gütermann Sulky Cotton 30 – cotton thread for machine quilting and embroidery designs with a wool-like character

Gütermann Sulky Cotton 30 is a 2-ply machine quilting thread made from 100 % cotton, for machine quilting, decorative stitches and machine embroidery. It is slightly heavier than a fine embroidery thread, so the stitches sit more raised on the fabric and take on a natural, wool-like look that suits rustic and handcrafted projects.

One spool holds 300 m. The thread weight is dtex 400(2). Choose your colour from the options.

Uses for Sulky Cotton 30

The thread is suitable for machine quilting, decorative stitching and free-motion machine embroidery. Because cotton looks matt and natural, it works well with cotton fabrics, patchwork and projects in a country-house or vintage style. The quilting lines stand out clearly without any shine. For very fine detail, a thinner thread is the better choice, as dtex 400(2) gives rather bold lines and fills.

Using the thread

Use a size NM 80–90 needle. Set the thread tension and stitch length on a test piece made from the same fabric and wadding as your project, so you can see early on whether the stitching will be even. Each spool holds 300 m, so for larger quilts plan on several spools and ideally buy them together in the same colour.
