Clover long sashiko needles – 3 embroidery needles in three lengths
The Clover long sashiko needles (no. 2009) are three embroidery needles for sashiko, the Japanese running-stitch embroidery. The set contains three needles of different lengths: 69.8 mm, 60.3 mm and 57.2 mm. That way you have the right needle to hand for both fine and larger work.
The needles are made of nickel-plated steel that has been hardened by heat treatment, so they are hard to bend or break. The point is sharp and pierces the fabric easily. The elliptical eye is gold-plated, which makes threading easier and is gentle on the thread.
Which needle for which job?
Use the longer needles when you want to load many stitches at once, for example on long lines across larger areas. The shorter needle, 1.07 mm thick, is easier to guide on small motifs and in tight spots. The quickest way to find out which length feels most comfortable is to try them out.
Stitching with the sashiko needle
Thread the needle with sashiko thread and pass it through the fabric several times in a row, keeping the stitches on the needle. Then pull the needle and thread through. You get even running stitches if you hold the fabric flat and do not bunch it up as you stitch.
