Clover Sashiko Needles – 8 Needles in 4 Lengths for Japanese Embroidery
Clover sashiko needles (no. 2007) are hand needles for Japanese sashiko embroidery with its long running stitches. The packet holds 8 needles: 2 each in 4 different lengths from 34.9 to 50.8 mm. From these lengths you pick the needle that suits the distance and the pattern.
The needles are made of nickel-plated steel and have a sharp point that pierces the fabric easily. The elliptical needle eye (gold-eye) is gold-plated. This makes it easier to thread the thicker sashiko thread. The thickness and point are designed for linen-like fabrics and typical sashiko thread.
Sashiko stitching with these needles
Draw the pattern on the fabric and thread the sashiko thread through the gold-eye needle eye. Then work in running stitch: pick up several stitches on the needle, pull it through and smooth the thread without puckering the fabric. Stitches of equal length and even thread tension give the pattern its calm appearance.
Which length should you use?
With the longer needles you pick up several stitches at once on straight lines. The shorter needles are easier to guide on small areas, curves and fine details. As each length comes twice in the packet, you also have the right size to hand if you change or replace a needle.
