Prym tapestry needles No. 18-22 – blunt needles for wool and thick yarns
The Prym tapestry needles with blunt tip, assorted in sizes No. 18-22, are blunt needles for stitching with thicker materials such as wool. The rounded tip does not pierce the fibres but pushes them aside. This keeps the material intact as you work and stops it fraying.
The eye is correspondingly large for thicker yarns, so you can thread wool easily. The needles are made of hardened steel and have a symmetrically punched gold eye which, according to Prym, is absolutely burr-free. The balanced ratio of length to thickness gives them good flexibility in use. You can also use them for weaving in wool ends.
Which needle for which job?
The number indicates the thickness: the higher the number, the finer the needle. With No. 18, 20 and 22, the assortment covers several sizes, so you can pick the right needle for your yarn. The yarn should pull easily through the eye without you having to squash it. The needle should not be much thicker than necessary, though, so that it does not widen the fabric unnecessarily as it is pulled through.
For weaving in wool ends
With the blunt tip, you guide yarn ends through existing stitches on the wrong side without splitting the yarn. This tucks away loose ends neatly, for example on wool embroidery or knitted items.
