Prym Tapestry Needles No. 18 – Blunt Needles for Wool and Thick Yarns
The Prym tapestry needles No. 18 (art. no. 125555) are blunt needles for embroidery with thicker materials such as wool. The rounded tip does not pierce the fibres but pushes them aside, so the material stays undamaged as you stitch.
The eye is correspondingly large for thick yarns, so wool is easier to thread. The needles are made of hardened steel and have a symmetrically punched gold eye without burrs. According to Prym, the balanced ratio of length to thickness gives good flexibility in use. The pack contains 6 needles.
Using the blunt needle
Blunt needles are suitable when you guide wool or other sturdy yarn through a stitching ground without damaging its fibres. Thread the yarn by flattening the end or folding it into a loop and pulling it through the large eye. To sew in wool ends, run the yarn under existing stitches without piercing the yarn.
Which number to choose
The number indicates the thickness: the higher the number, the finer the needle. No. 18 is thicker than No. 20 and No. 22 and has the larger eye for thicker yarns. For finer yarns, choose a higher number. Prym also offers the needles as an assorted pack No. 18–22.
