Lang Yarns Norma – silky summer knitting yarn

Lang Yarns Norma is a summer blend yarn with a silky sheen, made from 55% lyocell, 35% modal and 10% viscose. You can knit light jumpers and tops for warm days with it. One ball weighs 50 g and, according to the manufacturer, has a length of approx. 135 m, which makes it easy to work out how much you need.

What Norma is used for and how much you need

With a needle size of 4–4.5 mm and a tension of 23 stitches × 33 rows over 10 × 10 cm, you knit an airy fabric. This suits summer jumpers and light tops. For yarn requirements, the manufacturer gives roughly 700 g for a men's jumper in size M, 550 g for a women's jumper in size M and 400 g for a child's jumper (10 years). At 50 g per ball, that is around 14, 11 and 8 balls respectively. The actual amount depends on the pattern, so it is best to allow one extra ball.

Knitting tips

What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Yarns made from cellulose fibres such as lyocell, modal and viscose have less elasticity than wool. Knitted pieces can therefore stretch a little over time, especially long garments. Wash your knitting with detergent for delicates and no fabric softener, as the manufacturer recommends. Buy the quantity for a project in one go if you can, so the colour stays consistent throughout.
