The Clover Lace Darning Needle Set (art. no. 3168) contains three darning needles in sizes 20, 22 and 24. You use them in hand knitting for weaving in ends, darning and seaming stitches. "Lace" here refers to lace patterns, not to pointed needles: the needle tips are rounded and, according to Clover, do not split the yarn. Size 22 has a curved tip.

The needles come in a tube with a screw cap, so they do not get lost in your craft bag. "4-piece" means three needles plus the tube.

Working with the darning needles

To weave in an end, thread the yarn tail and, on the wrong side, run the needle along the line of the stitches through several stitches. To seam stitches together, work with the needle in grafting stitch (also called Kitchener stitch) so that the seam looks like a row of stitches. The rounded tip slides between the strands instead of piercing them.

Which needle to choose

The three sizes differ in needle thickness. Choose the needle whose eye takes your yarn without forcing: if the needle is too thick, it stretches the stitches; if the eye is too narrow, the yarn wears as you pull it through.
