The LYKKE INDIGO double-point knitting needle set, small, contains double-pointed needles (DPNs) in 8 sizes from 2 mm to 3.75 mm. The needles are 15 cm (6 inches) long and suit socks, hats, sleeves and other work in the round with a small circumference. The needles are made of birch wood and an indigo case is included.

The sizes are given in metric and US sizes (US 0 to US 5) and are engraved on the needles. That way you can still tell the size when a set of needles is loose in your bag. Each size comes with 5 needles. That is the number you need for a set of DPNs: you divide the stitches between four needles and knit with the fifth.

Knitting with double-pointed needles

Cast on the stitches and divide them evenly between four needles. With the fifth needle, knit the stitches from the first needle; as soon as it is free, it becomes the working needle for the next one. At 15 cm long, the needles stay short and easy to handle, which is useful for small circumferences such as socks, gloves or the crown of a hat. At the joins between the needles, pull the yarn slightly tighter on the first stitches so that no ladder forms.

Which needle size to choose

The set covers 2 mm to 3.75 mm in small steps. The finer sizes are for knitting thin sock yarn, while the larger ones suit slightly thicker yarns. Yarn and pattern are what count: what matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Because the sizes are so close together, you can easily match the needle to your knitting.
