Laneras Barefoot 4ply is a hand-dyed, 4-ply sock yarn (fingering weight) in 100% superwash Polwarth wool. You can knit or crochet socks and fine accessories with it. The wool comes from Polwarth sheep in Uruguay, and the yarns are hand-dyed in the USA.

Each ball weighs 100 g and has a length of approx. 365 m, which helps you estimate how much you need: depending on the pattern and size, larger projects will take several balls. Choose your colour from the options.

Uses for Barefoot 4ply

The superwash finish makes the wool washable: Laneras recommends a cold, gentle machine cycle or hand washing, and drying flat. The yarn is pure wool with no other fibres blended in. For socks that get a lot of wear, you can work the heel and toe with an additional reinforcing thread. Besides socks, the fine 4-ply yarn is also suitable for shawls, scarves and other light knitting and crochet projects.

Working with the yarn

The needle size of 2.25–3.25 mm given by the manufacturer suits firm, dense socks. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Because the yarn is hand-dyed, the shade can vary slightly from ball to ball. For projects using several balls, it is best to knit alternating between two balls so that no visible transitions appear.
