Efco Undrilled Wooden Balls – Raw Wood for Painting, Staining and Varnishing
Efco's undrilled wooden balls are beech wood blanks for craft projects such as mobiles, jewellery, wooden figures and decorations. Choose the size from Ø 10 to 150 mm from the options. The number of pieces per bag depends on the size.
As the balls are solid and have no hole, you decide where and how they are threaded, pushed onto a rod or glued. According to the manufacturer, they are FSC™-certified and come from responsibly managed forests. As raw wood, they can be painted, stained or varnished.
Drilling, threading and decorating
A solid ball easily rolls away when you drill it. Secure it in a vice with protective jaws or in a clamp and drill straight through the centre. Start with a small drill bit and, if needed, work up to the diameter you want so that the wood does not tear out. This way the hole fits your cord, wire or round dowel exactly.
Which size should you choose?
Small balls suit necklaces, garlands and details, medium ones suit mobiles and figures, and large ones suit decorative pieces and the bodies or heads of wooden figures. Raw wood absorbs paint: if you want an even, opaque finish when painting or varnishing, apply the paint in thin coats and let it dry between coats.
