Pilot Parallel Pen – calligraphy pen with two parallel stainless steel plates
The Pilot Parallel Pen is a calligraphy pen for hand lettering, beautiful handwriting, lettered phrases and decorative flourishes. Instead of a traditional nib, it has a tip made of two parallel stainless steel plates, with the ink flowing between them. This gives even strokes, from broad lines to fine details, without having to dip a nib into an inkwell.
The Parallel Pen is available in several nib widths. Each pen has exactly one of them; choose the width from the options. With a single pen you can therefore only vary the line width within its range, by holding it flat or turned. For clearly different stroke widths you will need a second pen.
Writing with the Parallel Pen
Place the tip flat on smooth paper so that both plates release ink evenly. Draw the pen at a constant angle and the stroke width stays uniform. If you turn it, the line becomes narrower, giving you fine hairlines alongside strong downstrokes. Let fresh ink dry briefly before your hand passes over it. Rinse the tip thoroughly after use so that no ink dries on it.
Ink and colour gradients
Only Pilot cartridges fit. Because of its particular flow behaviour, Pilot recommends Pilot Mixable Colour ink. With the CON-40 converter you can fill the pen with bottled ink. For colour gradients, hold the tips of two pens with different colours together: the ink passes across, and as you write the colours blend into one another.
