AMI calligraphy set, 8 pieces, with pen holder, nibs and black ink

AMI 8-piece calligraphy set – pen holder, 6 nibs and black ink

The AMI 8-piece calligraphy set is a writing set for getting started with pen calligraphy and for hand lettering with ink. It contains a pen holder, 6 different gold-coloured nibs and a jar of black calligraphy ink, packed in a black box.

With the six nibs you can try out how different the stroke and line width turn out. That way you find out which nib suits your handwriting before you create letters, invitations or lettering. The black ink gives strong contrast on light paper.

Writing with nib and ink

Push a nib into the holder and dip only the tip into the ink, not the whole nib. Wipe off excess ink on the rim of the jar. New nibs often have a protective film on which the ink beads up. Clean them briefly with water and a little washing-up liquid before first use and dry them off. Write with light pressure and pull the nib rather than push it, so that it does not catch in the paper.

Which nib should you use?

Try all six nibs on a practice sheet and make a note of which nib gives which stroke. For fine details and for bolder lettering, you then pick the matching nib. After writing, wipe the nib, clean it with water and dry it thoroughly so that the ink does not dry on and the metal does not rust.
