Talens Indian Ink is a black Chinese ink for drawing, writing and painting with a dip pen, ruling pen, brush or airbrush. According to Royal Talens, it adheres to various types of paper and dries quickly. Once dry, it is waterproof. Choose your size from the options.

Because the ink can be diluted with water, one bottle gives you not only a deep black but also a range of greys. This helps with hatching, washes and soft gradients, without needing a second colour.

Working with the ink

With a pen, dip only the tip and wipe off excess ink on the rim of the bottle to avoid blots. A brush is good for broad areas and bold lines. The same applies to an airbrush as to any other tool: clean it with water straight after use, as the ink dries quickly and becomes waterproof. Let it dry completely before working over it with water, watercolour or washes.

Mixing greys

Dilute the ink with water to get lighter tones. Test it first on the paper you intend to use and make a note of the mixing ratio. That way you can match the shade of grey later.
