The Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen Manga Black Set is a case of four black India ink pens with different nibs for contours, outlines and details in manga and comic drawings. Faber-Castell developed the set together with professional manga artists. It is aimed at anyone starting out in manga drawing.

The ink is pigmented, highly lightfast, waterproof and permanent. It is odourless, acid-free and pH-neutral and, according to Faber-Castell, does not bleed through the paper. Your drawings therefore stay legible and can later be combined with other techniques.

Which nib for which line?

All four pens contain the same black ink and differ only in the nib. One case therefore lets you build up the whole line hierarchy of a drawing.

• XS (0.1 mm): the finest lines, for example for details, hatching and facial features
• S (0.3 mm): inner lines and smaller contours
• F (0.5 mm): bolder outer contours and outlines
• B (brush nib): lines with varying stroke width, pronounced contours and larger black areas

Method

First sketch in pencil, then go over the lines with the India ink pens. Start with the thicker contours and add the fine details last, so that you do not smudge fresh lines. Let the ink dry thoroughly before you rub out the pencil sketch. Because the ink is waterproof and permanent, you can then work further on the dried lines with other techniques.
