VAN GOGH Metallic Watercolour Paints, Half Pan

VAN GOGH metallic watercolour paints in half pans – watercolour with a metallic shimmer

VAN GOGH metallic watercolour paints from Royal Talens are watercolour paints in half pans that contain metallic pigments, so they dry with a glossy to shimmering finish. You can use them for accents, embellishments, lettering, illustrations and backgrounds when ordinary watercolour looks too matt. Choose your colour from the options.

According to Royal Talens, VAN GOGH watercolour paints are brilliant and strongly pigmented, and the metallic colours are semi-opaque. Their consistent viscosity makes them easy to work with and to mix with other watercolour paints. Lightfastness is rated +++, which means at least 100 years under museum conditions.

Working with the pan

Moisten the paint in the pan with a wet brush and let it soften briefly before picking up colour. This helps the metallic pigment dissolve evenly. The more water you add, the softer and more transparent the application becomes; with little water the shimmer looks stronger.

• After use, leave the pan open to dry before closing the paintbox.
• Rinse your brush thoroughly between colours so that no paint residue mixes with other shades.

Effect and combinations

Transparent watercolour paints show hardly any effect on dark paper, whereas the shimmer of metallic colours often shows up more strongly there. Test them first on a swatch of your paper. Because the colours can be mixed, you can also glaze them over dry watercolour areas to add highlights and accents.
