Hahnemühle masking tape 25 mm – tape for watercolour paper and clean colour edges
Hahnemühle masking tape is an adhesive tape you can use to mask off a border or blank areas on watercolour paintings. It does not let water through and can be painted over with watercolours. After painting, you remove it cleanly without leaving any residue, and it leaves crisp colour edges.
The roll is 25 mm wide and 20 m long. The length is enough for several paintings where you tape all four edges. The wider tape gives a more distinct white border. For narrower borders, the tape is also available in 15 mm.
Taping down watercolour paper
Place the paper on a firm, smooth surface and tape each edge with a strip so that the tape extends slightly beyond the edge of the paper onto the board. Press it down firmly so that no paint runs underneath when you wet the paper. The taped area remains as a white border when you remove the tape after painting.
Removing the tape correctly
Do not pull the tape off sharply; peel it off slowly at a shallow angle. Wait until the paint and the paper are completely dry. This stops the paper surface from tearing. Hahnemühle recommends the tape for surface-sized papers.
