Schmincke AQUA Lift-off Medium – lift watercolour paint off again later

Schmincke AQUA Lift-off Medium (art. no. 50708) is a watercolour medium for treating watercolour paper beforehand. It seals the painting surface, so you can later partly lift off watercolour paint that has already dried and change or correct a picture afterwards. It therefore behaves like a non-staining medium.

It is particularly useful with staining watercolour paints. Once dry, they are difficult to re-wet and lift. Schmincke marks them with a triangle symbol. The bottle contains 60 ml.

Working with the lift-off medium

The medium goes onto the paper before you apply any paint, as it seals the painting surface. Shake the bottle well before use. Apply the medium only where you want to lift off paint later, and let it dry before you start painting. The type of paper determines whether you dilute it: on very soft, highly absorbent, lightly sized papers, such as rag paper, apply the medium undiluted. On more heavily sized papers, dilute it with water.

Test first and care of your tools

Papers differ greatly in their properties. Test first on an offcut to see how the medium and paint behave on your paper. As the medium dries water-insoluble, clean brushes and other tools with soap and water as soon as possible after use. Close the bottle straight after use and store it in a cool, dry place.
