This Schmincke metal tin is a ready-filled watercolour set with 24 half pans of AKADEMIE Aquarell. You can start painting straight away without putting a selection of colours together yourself. The paints are made with a high concentration of artist-quality pigments and, according to Schmincke, are specially suited to beginners.

All AKADEMIE Aquarell colours are cadmium-free. Names such as "cadmium red hue" refer only to the shade. The tin is fully stocked with all 24 pans. The range runs from yellow, orange and red through violet, blue and green to earth tones, Payne's grey, black and opaque white. You can mix most in-between shades yourself and get a colour gradient that is easy to control.

Who is the tin for?

With 24 colours you have enough choice to create mixing charts and get a feel for colour effects and the amount of water, without buying a large range straight away. Use the opaque white (111) for highlights and small accents that the white of the paper cannot provide. AKADEMIE Aquarell can be mixed with Horadam Aquarell, Aqua bronzes and Aqua auxiliaries from Schmincke, so you can expand the tin later.

Using the tin

Moisten the paint in the pan with a few drops of water and leave it to soften briefly. Pick it up with a wet brush and mix it on the folding mixing palette. The palette is part of the tin, so you do not need an extra one. Use watercolour paper, as thin paper cockles under water. After painting, let the paints dry in the pans before you close the tin. When individual pans are used up, you can buy replacements.
