ECOLA Poster Paint Set, Primary Colours – 6 Colours for Learning to Mix
The Talens Ecola primary colours set contains six poster paints in 16 ml glass bottles: white, lemon yellow, Tyrian pink (magenta), light blue (cyan), dark green and black, 96 ml in total. According to the manufacturer, the intense colour was developed specially for learning how to mix colours. It has good coverage, is easy to work with and can be thinned with water.
The paint is very economical to use, and even a small amount goes a long way. The small bottles are therefore perfectly adequate for school lessons and practice sessions.
Mixing with the set
The three colours lemon yellow, Tyrian pink (magenta) and light blue (cyan) are the primary mixing colours. White, dark green and black are added as extra colours. Mix on a palette, not directly in the bottles.
- Yellow and magenta make orange and red shades.
- Yellow and cyan make green shades.
- Magenta and cyan make violet and blue shades.
- Add white to lighten a shade and black to darken it. Always add only small amounts of the stronger colour to the lighter one, otherwise it will overpower the result.
Working and cleaning
The paints can be thinned with water, so you can adjust the opacity to suit your subject. After painting, clean your brushes with water; according to the manufacturer, hands and brushes can be cleaned with soap and water. This is handy in everyday school use, as no solvents are needed. Close the bottles again after painting so that the paint does not dry out.
