Mayco Underglaze UG-215 Blush – soft pink underglaze for ceramics
Mayco Fundamentals Underglaze UG-215 Blush is an underglaze in a soft rosé pink for painting ceramics, for example floral designs, gentle colour gradients, patterns and accents. It belongs to the Fundamentals series, Mayco's first product line, designed for consistent colour, easy application and performance. The jar contains 59 ml.
Without a clear glaze, Blush fires matt. Under a transparent clear glaze it gives a glossy surface on which the pink looks soft with a slight sheen.
Applying and firing Blush
Apply Blush with a brush or sponge in 2–3 coats to wet clay, greenware or bisqueware. Let each coat dry before applying the next to keep the colour even. More coats give a stronger pink; for fine details and gradients, less colour per coat is often enough.
Mayco gives the firing range as cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 10 (approx. 1,285 °C, guide value per Orton chart). At cone 6 (approx. 1,222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) and cone 10 the colour becomes more concentrated. Make a test piece there so you know the effect before painting a whole piece.
Clear glaze and dinnerware
For a glossy surface, cover the underglaze with a transparent clear glaze. At cone 6 and cone 10, Mayco recommends SW-001 Stoneware Clear. Blush is only suitable for dinnerware under a transparent, dinnerware-safe clear glaze. Without a clear glaze, the underglaze fires matt and should not be considered dinnerware safe.
