Mayco Jungle Gems S-2727 Poppy Fields – crystal glaze for decorative ceramics

Mayco Jungle Gems Crystal Glaze S-2727 Poppy Fields is a liquid crystal glaze in a 118 ml container for bisque-fired ceramics. It contains crystalline particles that spread during firing and form individual patterns with coloured crystals. You can use it for decorative pieces such as vases, bowls and other objects.

The glaze is ready to use, so you do not need to mix it. It is fired in the range from cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). At higher temperatures the colours become paler. If you want strong colours, stay within the stated range.

Applying the glaze

The crystals settle in the bottle. Thorough stirring before each application is therefore important.

• Shake and stir the glaze well before use so that the crystals are evenly distributed.
• Apply 2–3 even coats to bisque-fired ceramics with a fan brush.
• Allow to dry between coats.
• For the third coat, redistribute the crystals if necessary so that they cover evenly.
• Allow to dry thoroughly and fire in the cone 06 to 05 firing range.

Crystals and flow behaviour

The crystals run during firing because of their flow properties. Do not apply them close to the base of your piece, so that nothing runs down to the foot. As a precaution, place delicate pieces on a suitable waster slab.

Decorative pieces only

Poppy Fields is not intended for dinnerware. Choose the glaze for vases, bowls used as decoration or figurines, not for cups, plates or bowls that come into contact with food. According to ACMI, the ACMI AP seal (Approved Product) indicates a product without hazard labelling. It is not proof of suitability as dinnerware.
