Botz 9532 Ginster liquid glaze – creamy yellow, satin, with speckles
Botz 9532 Ginster is a lead-free, ready-to-brush liquid glaze in creamy yellow for earthenware. The surface fires to a satin finish and shows fine speckles. According to Botz, Ginster is the creamy yellow variation of 9531 Winterfeld. The tub contains 200 ml.
Ginster is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C if needed. This gives you some leeway if your kiln or firing schedule is not exactly at 1020–1060 °C. On coloured clays the speckles become darker. On a light clay body they stay more subtle. A test tile made from your own clay will show you beforehand how the colour and speckles look in your case.
Applying Ginster
The glaze is ready to use and is applied to bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have been carried out at a minimum of 950 °C.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply with a brush to the clay body, which must be free of dust and grease
- Once the first coat has dried, apply the second coat and repeat if needed
- Allow to dry thoroughly before firing
- Fire in the range of 1020–1060 °C, up to a maximum of 1100 °C
Choosing from the range and common mistakes
Ginster is the creamy yellow variant of its sister glaze 9531 Winterfeld. A coat that is too thin or uneven often only shows after firing as streaks or pale patches. So apply each coat evenly and let it dry before the next. Stir the glaze again from time to time so that the speckles do not settle at the bottom of the tub.
