LYKKE Driftwood 5 inch – interchangeable needle set with 12 needle sizes and case

The LYKKE Driftwood circular knitting needle set is a 44-piece interchangeable set made of wood. You fit the tips and cables together to suit your project, so one set will knit hats, socks, sleeves, jumpers or shawls.

The set contains 12 pairs of wooden tips from 3.5 to 12 mm, each 5 inch (12.7 cm) long. It also includes 5 cables in three lengths, 2 connectors, 4 keys, 8 stoppers and a grey needle case. Everything is stored in one place, and you can choose the right tip for the needle size in your pattern.

Assembling the needle

Screw the tip you want onto a cable and tighten the join with the key. Check again after the first few rows that the join is secure, so the yarn does not catch at the transition. With the connectors you join two cables to make a longer one, for example for large shawls or circular work with many stitches. The stoppers close the cable ends. This lets you park stitches on the cable or take off a needle tip for a break without stitches slipping off.

Choosing cable length and needle size

For hats, socks and sleeves you will usually take a short cable. Jumpers, shawls and wide pieces work better on the 80 cm or 100 cm cable. The needle size is given by your pattern. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; if yours is off, simply swap the tip for the next size without changing the cable. At 12.7 cm the tips are quite short, which is handy for knitting with a small circumference. Sizes are given in mm and as US sizes, so English patterns are easy to follow.
