Paper piecing templates: 100 equilateral triangles for patchwork

These templates are equilateral triangles measuring 2.5 inch, made for paper piecing patchwork. You get 100 in a pack. That is enough to prepare a larger project with lots of triangles of the same size, without needing new templates part-way through.

With this technique, the paper template sets the shape. All the fabric pieces come out the same size, and the points of the triangles meet exactly when you sew them together.

Working with the triangles

The method is the same for all shapes. What matters is that you allow a generous seam allowance and fold the fabric edges firmly around the template.

• Cut the fabric slightly larger than the template, so there is a seam allowance all round to fold over.
• Place the template in the centre of the wrong side of the fabric and fold the edges over.
• Tack the edges down with large stitches or hold them with pins.
• Place two triangles right sides together and sew them together along the edge with small stitches.
• Only pull out the tacking threads and the papers once a triangle has been sewn to its neighbours all the way round.
