English paper piecing hexagons 1 inch – 100 patchwork templates

These templates are hexagons for English paper piecing patchwork. The pack contains 100 pieces in the size 1 inch. You tack fabric around the templates and join the hexagons to make rosettes, flower patterns or whole panels.

With 100 templates of the same size, you can prepare lots of fabric hexagons at once and do not have to start again after every rosette.

Working with the templates

The template gives the fabric its exact shape, so that the hexagons fit together neatly later.

• Cut a piece of fabric that is about 0.5 to 1 cm larger than the template all the way round.
• Place the template in the centre of the wrong side of the fabric, fold the seam allowance over the edges and tack it in place with stitches through the fabric and the template.
• Place two hexagons right sides together and sew them together along the edge with small whip stitches.
• Once the hexagons are joined, remove the tacking threads and take out the templates.

Choosing a size

The size of the template determines the size of the finished hexagons. Always use the same size within one project so that the edges meet exactly. At 1 inch, the hexagons are small and suit fine patterns.
