Paper Hexagon Templates 1.5 inch – Paper Templates for Paper Piecing Patchwork

The Templates Paper Hexagon 1.5 inch are hexagonal paper templates for paper piecing patchwork. The pack contains 100 pieces in the size 1.5 inch (approx. 3.8 cm).

In paper piecing, you wrap the fabric around the template and tack it in place. This gives all the hexagons the same shape and size, and the corners can be sewn together precisely.

Working with the hexagon templates

The template sets the shape, and the fabric is tacked around it. Only then are the hexagons joined together.

• Cut the fabric slightly larger than the template, so that a seam allowance is left all round for folding over.
• Place the template centrally on the wrong side of the fabric and fold the edges over the paper, one side at a time.
• Secure the edges with tacking stitches or a little fabric glue so that the corners lie neatly.
• Place two hexagons right sides together and join the edges with fine whip stitches.
• Only remove the paper once all sides of the hexagon have been sewn and the tacking thread has been taken out.

Which size to choose

This template is also available in the series in 0.5, 0.75, 1 and 1.25 inch. Small hexagons suit fine patterns with lots of detail. The 1.5 inch size is the largest of these. It lets you make faster progress on blankets or larger areas, because there are fewer pieces to tack and sew together.
