The Templates Paper Hexagon 0.5 inch are hexagon-shaped paper templates for English paper piecing patchwork. You get 100 pieces in the size 1/2 inch (1.27 cm). This small size suits fine patterns and small patchwork projects.

In English paper piecing, you wrap fabric around the template and tack it in place. This keeps the edges straight and the corners precise, even on small pieces. You then sew the tacked hexagons together into patterns such as hexagon flowers.

Working with the hexagons

For each template, cut a piece of fabric that is about 6 mm larger than the paper all the way round. Place the template in the centre of the wrong side of the fabric, fold the fabric edges over the paper and tack them in place with needle and thread. To join two hexagons, place them right sides together and sew the edges with small stitches. For a flower, arrange six hexagons around a central one. Finally, remove the tacking threads and pull out the papers.

Which size should you choose?

At 1/2 inch the work is very small-scale. It suits fine patterns, but you need a lot of pieces. Larger hexagons are available in this series in 0.75, 1, 1.25 and 1.5 inch. They are quicker to sew and show fabric patterns more clearly.
