Noro Tsubame – colour gradient yarn in silk, wool and polyamide
Noro Tsubame is a self-striping knitting yarn made from 50% silk, 25% wool and 25% polyamide. You can knit shawls, scarves and light tops with it. One skein weighs 200 g and has a length of 600 m. The yarn is named after the barn swallow (Japanese “Tsubame”), which returns to Japan in spring.
Choose your colour from the options. The yarn changes colour by itself as you knit, in smooth transitions, so you never need to switch shades. The polyamide content makes the stitches more hard-wearing, while silk and wool give the yarn its character.
What to knit with Tsubame
Colour gradients show to best effect in simple knitting, such as stocking stitch, garter stitch or easy lace patterns. Elaborate cables or textured stitch patterns tend to disappear behind the colour changes. According to the manufacturer, shawls, scarves and light tops are the typical projects for this yarn. The length of 600 m per skein helps you plan quantities: compare it with the amount of yarn given in your pattern before you order.
Several skeins and tension
With colour gradient yarns, the colour sequence can differ from skein to skein. If you need more than one skein, it is best to knit alternately from two skeins so that no harsh colour break appears. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide.
