Prym Metal Hem Gauge – mark hems from 1 to 6 cm evenly
With the Prym metal hem gauge (art. no. 610736) you can mark hem widths from 1 to 6 cm, for example when sewing, quilting or knitting. The gauge also has a 90° angle marking. It is made of 100% aluminium and is heat-resistant, so you can iron over it. So you can press the hem over straight away as you measure, then sew it.
The hem gauge is suitable for necklines, armholes, buttonholes and side seams, as well as tablecloths and curtains. On sewing patterns you can use it to mark seam allowances. The width you want is always in view, and you will mark it faster than with a ruler. The hanging hole makes it easy to store.
How to mark a hem
Lay the fabric in front of you with the wrong side facing up and slide the hem gauge against the fabric edge. Read off the width you want, between 1 and 6 cm, on the scale. Mark the hemline there, or fold the edge over directly and press it in place against the gauge. This keeps the hem width the same along its whole length. The 90° angle marking helps you at corners, for example on tablecloths, and when marking buttonholes.
