This YKK metal zip is intended for a trouser fly, but it also fits pockets. The closable length is 16 cm and the teeth are silver-coloured. The zip is closed-end, which means it cannot be opened completely and separated like a jacket zip. For trousers, that is exactly what is wanted.

When closed, the chain is approx. 0.4 cm wide, narrow enough for a discreet trouser fly. Including the tape, the zip measures approx. 2.4 cm in total width. Choose your colour from the options.

Inserting the zip

First measure the opening length given in your pattern and compare it with the closable length of 16 cm. Sew the tape in with a zip foot so that you stitch close to the chain. With metal teeth, make sure the needle never hits the teeth, as it may break. It is best to slide the zip pull out of the way while sewing, then pull it back past the seam.
