Faber-Castell metal double pencil sharpener – sharp and blunt points

Which point setting should you use?

According to Faber-Castell, graphite pencils are sharpened to a particularly slim point because of their hard leads, while colouring pencils are sharpened shorter and blunter because of their softer leads. The two settings let you do just that: the blunter point is less prone to breaking with soft leads, and you use the sharp one when you need fine lines and detail.

When to replace the sharpener

The sharpener blade becomes blunt over time. The point then breaks off more often and the pencil is torn rather than cut. Faber-Castell therefore recommends replacing the sharpener from time to time.
