Botz PRO 9315 Larimar – blue to turquoise glaze for earthenware and stoneware
Botz PRO 9315 Larimar is a ready-to-use liquid glaze from Botz in blue to turquoise for earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. It is glossy, semi-transparent and plain-coloured. With its wide firing range of 1020–1280 °C, you do not need two different glazes for earthenware and stoneware. The tin contains 800 ml.
According to the manufacturer, the Botz PRO glazes combine well with Botz Unidekor. Larimar is also marked as suitable for raku.
Which firing temperature should you choose?
For the PRO range, Botz gives different results depending on the firing. This helps you choose the firing and the number of coats.
- From approx. 1050 °C (earthenware): strong, almost opaque colour, apply 2–3 coats
- Around 1150 °C (early-vitrifying clays): more semi-transparent, apply 2 coats
- Around 1250 °C (stoneware, also porcelain): glassy, semi-transparent surface
Application and firing
Stir the glaze vigorously before use. If it is too thick, add a little water. Apply 2–3 coats and let each coat dry slightly. The glaze must be thoroughly dry before firing. Larimar tends to run when applied thickly. So do not apply it too thickly, leave the foot of the piece unglazed and, if needed, protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash.
For tableware
Botz recommends the PRO glazes for tableware. For this, the clay must be vitrified. With earthenware (1020–1100 °C), many clays are not yet watertight. Botz advises against using such ceramics for liquids over a long period. Anyone selling tableware is responsible for its food safety.
