Botz PRO 9319 Peridot – warm green glaze with fine brown specks
Botz PRO 9319 Peridot is a ready-to-use liquid glaze in a slightly yellowish, warm green with fine brown specks. The finish is glossy and semi-transparent. The glaze can be used across a wide firing range of 1020–1280 °C, so it suits both earthenware and stoneware. Some of the clay body beneath still shows through.
The result changes with the firing temperature. At 1050 °C natural brown dots appear and the glaze covers almost fully. At 1150 °C it looks finely speckled and more semi-transparent. At 1250 °C the surface becomes glassy and semi-transparent, and the delicate dots run a little more. The 800 ml tub suits larger quantities or several pieces.
Application and firing
Stir the glaze vigorously before use. If it is too thick, add a little water. Apply 2–3 coats and let each coat dry slightly. The glaze must be thoroughly dry before firing. At 1050 °C apply 2–3 coats; at 1150 °C and 1250 °C, 2 coats are enough.
- 1050 °C: brown dots, almost opaque
- 1150 °C: finely speckled, more semi-transparent
- 1250 °C: glassy, semi-transparent, also on porcelain
Avoiding runs
From 1150 °C the glaze tends to run if applied thickly. So do not apply it too thickly, and leave the foot of the piece unglazed so that nothing runs onto the kiln shelf. As the glaze is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay affects the result. It combines well with Botz Unidekor.
For tableware
Botz recommends the PRO glazes for tableware. For this the clay body must be vitrified. With earthenware (1020–1100 °C) many clays are not yet vitrified, and such ceramics should not be used long-term for liquids. If you sell tableware, you are responsible for its suitability for food contact.
