Small kiln stilt (tripod) – firing glazed ceramics with minimal contact
The small metal tripod is a kiln stilt for the glaze firing: you stand glazed ceramic pieces on it so that they rest on just a few fine metal points. The contact marks stay barely visible and the glaze stays clean and even.
With a 26 × 26 mm base and a height of 10 mm, it suits small ceramic pieces. The metal points withstand temperatures in the firing range up to 1,250 °C, depending on the weight of the ceramics. After the glaze firing, you simply lift the piece off the tripod.
Using the kiln stilts
Place the glazed piece on the metal points of the tripod so that only a few points touch the ceramic. For heavier pieces or high temperatures, spread the load over several kiln stilts so the points are not overloaded. Make sure the piece sits stable and level before you close the kiln.
