Heavy-Duty Trivet Stilt – Metal Kiln Furniture for Heavy Ceramics in the Glaze Firing
The heavy-duty trivet stilt is a piece of metal kiln furniture for the glaze firing. You place it under the ceramic piece to be glazed, so that the underside does not rest directly on the kiln shelf. The metal points are very small, so the contact area with the ceramic is extremely small.
After firing, the piece comes away from the trivet easily. Only minimal marks are left in the glaze where the points touched. The trivet is intended for heavy ceramic pieces. Choose the size from the options.
Using the trivet stilt
Before the glaze firing, place the trivets on the kiln shelf and set the ceramic piece on top, with its glazed base resting on them. This lets you glaze the underside or the foot as well, without the piece sticking. After firing, lift the ceramic off. The small marks left by the points are minimal.
Weight and firing temperature
According to the manufacturer, the firing range goes up to 1250 °C. How much a trivet can carry depends on the weight of the ceramic. At high temperatures, it is therefore better to use several stilts per piece, so that the load on each individual point stays as small as possible.
