Botz liquid glaze 9577 Reptil – satin metallic glaze on a green base

Botz liquid glaze 9577 Reptil is a ready-to-use earthenware glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It is satin, opaque and has a metallic character on a green base. Applied thickly, it looks more silvery. It also runs particularly heavily then.

The glaze is stable in the range of 1020–1060 °C and, according to Botz, can be fired up to 1100 °C. Because it tends to run, it suits pieces where you leave the foot unglazed and protect the kiln shelf.

Applying and firing Reptil

Stir the glaze well before use and thin it with a little water if needed. Apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C). Let each coat dry thoroughly and repeat the application if needed.

Preventing runs

Reptil tends to run, especially when applied thickly. Apply it more thinly on the lower third of the piece and leave the foot unglazed so that nothing drips onto the kiln shelf. Protect the shelf additionally with kiln wash. Make a test piece first with your own clay and your own coat thickness. That way you can see how much the glaze flows in your case. According to the Botz catalogue, strongly metallic glazes are not recommended for tableware and drinking vessels.
