Botz 9582 Krokodil Liquid Glaze – Satin Green with Brown Tones

Botz 9582 Krokodil liquid glaze is a satin, opaque earthenware glaze for brushing onto bisque-fired ceramics. It gives a natural, textured to speckled colour effect in green with brown tones.

You control how much green or brown you get through the number of coats and the firing temperature. With 1–2 coats the result stays greener, with 2–3 coats the brown content is higher. The glaze belongs to the Botz range of liquid glazes for earthenware and is ready to brush on.

Application and firing

Stir the glaze thoroughly until the settled particles are back in suspension. If needed, thin it with a little water. Apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at 950 °C minimum) and let each coat dry well before applying the next.

• Stable in the firing range 1020–1060 °C
• Can be fired up to 1100 °C, which gives a browner result

• Allow to dry well and repeat if needed

Green or brown: controlling the result

For more green, apply Krokodil once or twice. For a high brown content, two to three coats are needed. Firing the glaze above 1060 °C up to 1100 °C gives a browner result. The colour effect also depends on the clay body, the thickness of application and the kiln. A test tile made from your own clay shows you beforehand how much green and brown you will get in your firing. If you need several pieces with the same look, glaze them with the same number of coats.
