Pricking Needle with Wooden Handle – for Perforating Pre-Drawn Shapes
The pricking needle has a varnished wooden handle and a sturdy metal needle. You use it to prick fine holes along pre-drawn lines in paper or card. This creates a perforation that makes it easier to cut out the shape. The technique is also used to practise working with templates before cutting with scissors.
The handle has a diameter of 15 mm and is 50 mm long, and the needle is sturdy enough for paper and card. With a total length of approx. 90 mm, the needle sits compactly in the hand and is easy to guide when working along fine lines.
How to prick
Place the paper with the pre-drawn shape on a felt mat. It catches the needle point and protects the tabletop. Push the needle in vertically along the line and make the holes at an even, close spacing. The closer together the holes are, the more cleanly the shape can be cut out or released afterwards. The needle is sharp, so make sure your hand is never in front of or underneath the point where you are piercing.
