The da Vinci Series 29 flat bristle brush is an all-round brush with white Chinese bristles for acrylic, oil, gouache and tempera paints. You can use it at school and for hobby work, for decorative painting, model making, textile and fabric painting, or for applying glue and paste.

The bristles are set in a seamless, rustproof ferrule. The short raw wood handle sits comfortably in the hand and lets you work close to the surface. Choose your size from the options.

Working with the bristle brush

Bristles are firmer than synthetic or sable hair and hold plenty of paint. This lets you apply paint boldly and with good coverage, even on rougher surfaces. For acrylic and gouache, dip only the tips of the bristles and wipe off excess paint on the rim of the container to keep your strokes even. Oil paint can be spread or worked out well in broad strokes. Wash out water-soluble paints straight away, as dried paint in the ferrule makes the bristles stiff and splays them.

Which size to choose

Series 29 is available in sizes 2 to 24. The higher the number, the wider the brush. Use small numbers for narrow areas, edges and corners, medium sizes for motifs and details in hobby work, and large numbers for backgrounds, priming and larger areas.
