Noro Kureyon – gradient wool yarn for jumpers, shawls and hats
Noro Kureyon is a gradient yarn made from 100% wool, suitable for jumpers, shawls, hats and other accessories. Each ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 100 m, so you can plan the quantity for your project easily. The yarn is made in Japan. Choose your colour from the options.
Kureyon is a single-ply yarn, so it is not plied, and it is deliberately slightly uneven along its length. This gives the knitted piece a rustic character. The colours blend into one another slowly over long stretches, and the colour change happens by itself as you knit, with no need to change yarns. The gradient shows to best effect in stocking stitch or garter stitch, as fine textured stitch patterns tend to get lost in gradient yarns.
Working with Kureyon
Knitted on 4.5–5 mm needles, the yarn works up at its stated weight. The tension is 14–16 stitches and 22–24 rows over 10 × 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Knit a tension swatch before starting a larger piece, as the uneven single-ply yarn knits up slightly looser or firmer depending on how you knit.
Planning the quantity
With approx. 100 m per 50 g ball, you will need several balls for a jumper and correspondingly fewer for hats or small shawls. The exact quantity depends on the design and size, and your pattern will tell you the length required. The colour gradients can differ from ball to ball. It is therefore best to buy the whole quantity at once and, for larger pieces, to knit alternately from two balls so that the transitions are more balanced.
