Botz stoneware glaze 9863 Vergissmeinnicht – light blue, soft satin-matt with fine effects

Botz stoneware glaze 9863 Vergissmeinnicht is a liquid glaze for stoneware that you apply with a brush. It fires to a soft satin-matt, bright light blue with fine effects. The tub contains 800 ml.

The colour depends on the firing temperature: the higher you fire, the lighter and glossier the blue becomes and the more the surface shows effects. The firing range is 1220–1280 °C, and 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold is recommended. For other shades, the Botz stoneware glaze series offers further colours, such as Betongrau, Wüstengelb, Rosa Fels or Eukalyptus.

Firing temperature and colour

The same glaze looks different depending on the firing. At the recommended 1250 °C you get a medium shade with a granite-matt surface and attractive effects. If you want a different result, you can vary the temperature within the firing range:

• 1220 °C: darker, richer colour, more matt, fewer effects
• 1250 °C: medium shade, granite-matt, attractive effects
• 1280 °C: lighter colour, glossier, plenty of effects

Applying the glaze

Stir the glaze thoroughly before use and brush 2 to 3 coats onto bisque-fired ceramic. Botz recommends three coats rather than two. Let each coat dry before applying the next so that the coverage is even. Every kiln fires a little differently, so a test piece made from your own clay and fired with your own programme will show you in advance how the light blue turns out for you.
