Botz PRO 9319 Peridot – warm green with fine brown specks
Botz PRO 9319 Peridot is a ready-to-use liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware in a warm, slightly yellowish green with fine brown specks. The surface is glossy and semi-transparent. The glaze can be used across a wide firing range of 1020–1280 °C, so you don't have to commit to a single firing temperature.
How Peridot looks depends on the temperature: the higher you fire, the glassier and more transparent the surface becomes. Because it is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay body also shows through. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how the result turns out for you. The tub contains 200 ml.
How Peridot looks at different firing temperatures
The glaze changes its appearance with the firing temperature:
- 1050 °C: natural brown dots, almost opaque, apply 2–3 coats
- 1150 °C: finely speckled with a more semi-transparent surface, 2 coats
- 1250 °C: glassy, semi-transparent surface with slightly more running, delicate dots, 2 coats
Application and firing
Stir the glaze vigorously before use. If it is too thick, add a little water. Apply it in 2–3 coats and let each coat dry. The glaze must be thoroughly dry before firing. From 1150 °C, Peridot tends to run if applied thickly. So do not apply it too thickly, especially on the lower part of the piece, leave the foot unglazed and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash. The glaze combines well with Botz Unidekor.
Peridot on dinnerware
Botz recommends the PRO glazes for tableware. For this, the clay body must be vitrified. With earthenware in the range of 1020–1100 °C, many clays are not yet vitrified, so you should not use such ceramics for liquids over a long period. If you sell dinnerware, you are yourself responsible for its suitability for food contact.
