YKK 22 cm zip – closed-end, with fine polyester coil

The YKK zip CFC-36 in 22 cm is a closed-end coil zip for sewing into skirts, dresses, trousers, bags and home textiles such as cushions. Choose your colour from the options.

The fine polyester coil is flexible and easy to sew. The standard slider runs smoothly. "Closed-end" means the zip is firmly closed at the bottom and cannot be opened completely. That suits side and back seams, bags and cushion covers. For jackets or waistcoats that need to open fully, you need an open-ended zip.

Sewing in the zip

Pin the zip to the seam allowance with pins or sewing clips and sew it in with a zip foot. The foot lets you sew close to the coil. Move the slider out of the way as you sew and do not sew over it, so the needle does not break. With stretchy or very fine fabrics, stabilise the seam allowance beforehand with interfacing so the seam does not ripple.

Which length?

Measure the opening in your pattern or garment and choose the zip to match. 22 cm is a common length for side seams on skirts and trousers and for small bags. The range also includes other lengths, for example 15, 18, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 60 cm.
