Prym White Elastic Sewing Thread – Stretchy Thread for Cuffs, Hats and Gathering

Prym elastic sewing thread in white (art. no. 970026) is a very stretchy thread, 0.5 mm thick, with 20 m on a sewing machine bobbin. You can knit or crochet it in as a carry-along yarn to make hats, cuffs and wrist warmers elastic, or sew with it directly. According to Prym, it consists of 50% elastane and 50% polyamide. The elastane content gives the thread its high stretch.

A groove in the base and lid of the bobbin holds the thread in place while your work is resting. It stays wound on the bobbin and does not tangle in your toolbox.

Using the thread

For knitting or crochet, the thread runs alongside your yarn. On cuffs and hat edges in particular, it draws the stitches together and keeps the shape. On the sewing machine, you can use it to make gathers or to stabilise selected areas of the fabric that need to stay stretchy. Sew a test seam on a fabric scrap first, so you can see how much the fabric gathers.

Choosing the colour

The elastic sewing thread is available in different colours. White suits light yarns and fabrics; for dark materials, choose a darker colour so the thread does not show through.
