Noro Uchiwa – summer yarn for tops, shawls and light accessories
Noro Uchiwa is a summer yarn made from 50% cotton, 30% viscose and 20% silk, for knitting and crocheting tops, shawls, scarves and light accessories. One ball weighs 200 g and has a length of approx. 500 m, which works out at approx. 250 m per 100 g. The yarn weight is given as aran/worsted. It is thicker than DK yarn, and with larger needles you make quick progress.
The silk adds sheen to the fabric, while cotton and viscose are plant-based fibres with no wool. Noro Uchiwa is made with colour gradients, so the yarn changes colour as you knit or crochet. Choose your colour from the options.
What Noro Uchiwa is suited to
With needles of 4.5–5.5 mm you get loosely knitted tops, airy shawls, scarves and small summer accessories. For crochet, use a crochet hook in the same size. Cotton and viscose have little elasticity, so it suits projects that do not need to fit closely, such as loose tops, shawls and wraps.
Working with it
The ball band gives 16–20 stitches per 10 cm in stocking stitch. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. With a gradient yarn the colour changes along the length. If you knit larger pieces such as tops alternately from two balls, the colour transitions are distributed more evenly.
