The Gütermann cotton thread set contains 20 reels with 100 m each of 100% cotton sewing thread in assorted colours, 2,000 m in total. The cotton is C Ne 50 and mercerised. According to Gütermann, this gives the thread a distinct sheen and makes it very strong. It is made from Egyptian cotton.

The set is a natural-fibre thread for hand and machine sewing. With so many colours, you have a choice to hand for small projects and leftover scraps.

What the thread is used for

Gütermann lists construction and top-stitching seams, decorative stitches and seams, as well as patchwork and quilting. The thread is intended for all fabrics and weaves. Buttonholes and sewing on buttons also work well with it, by hand as well as on the sewing machine. The soft sheen of the mercerised cotton shows especially on visible top-stitching and decorative stitches.

Choosing and a tip

The set of 20 colours is a good choice if you sew many projects or need thread in various shades for patchwork and quilts. If you need a lot of thread in one colour, for example for long seams, a single colour makes more sense, as each reel holds only 100 m. If you are sewing on cotton fabrics, you combine natural fibre with natural fibre. Before you start sewing, test on a scrap of fabric to check the stitch appearance and thread tension.
